Lola Louise Upshaw Byrd

Ms. Lola Louise Byrd entered into eternal rest on Friday January 7, 2022. Lola Louise Upshaw Affectionately known as "Shug", "Noonie" and "Sis" Lola was born July 4,1937 in Hurtsboro, AL to late General Lee Sr. and Ruby Lee Upshaw. She was the eldest of twelve children. Preceding in death, sister Nella Green Upshaw, brothers General Lee Jr. and Jimmie Lee Upshaw.
After moving to Atlanta, GA in 1960, she gained employment at Grady Hospital in the infant ward, then later transitioned to Pepsi Cola. In 1975, Lola was employed by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, Marietta, GA where she retired after 23 years. Lola was a faithful member of Faith Temple Christian Church, where she resided under Apostle Welborn Westbrook. Lola was Full of LIFE...So vibrant and truly loved her children; they were the center of her world! Lola loved gardening, anything from vegetables to flowers. It was the enjoyment of planting a seed and watch it grow. Her favorite past time was sitting on the front porch, being outside. Lola will be best remembered for a Loving Heart, Showing Kindness, A Giving Spirit and Cooking. She leaves to cherish her precious memories a loving and devoted family of six children-John Otis Gary Sr (Enesha), Josephious Gary Sr (Michelle), Jerome Gordon (Rhonda), Gregory ( Marquis), Ulysses Gordon, Serita Colbert (Derwin); a host of grandchildren- Ebonye, John Otis Jr, Caidyn, Tarlisha, Josephious Jr, Jeremy, BarryLee, Jared,Timecca, Cortez, Kelly, Peddi, Deodrick, Terrell, Mequisha, Bryant, Demarcus and Amari Siblings-Annie Will Robinson, Evonne Bundy, Marie (Lionel) Keys, Ruby Lee Worrell, Rose (Tim) Nolan, William (Bernadine) Upshaw, Patrick (Faye) Upshaw, Cecil(Joyce) Upshaw and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and loved ones.
Wake will be held at Divine Mortuary on Friday January 14, 2022, from 5-7:00 PM. Graveside service will be held at Rest Haven Cemetery on Saturday January 15, 2022, at 2:00 PM. Ms. Byrd will lie in state from 1:00 PM until hour of service. Interment following graveside service. Service will stream live starting at 1:45 PM https://player2.streamspot.com/playerId=69442645
