“Phenomenal women highlight our lives with indelible ink” - Angie Rowe.
Lee Violet Legister went home to be with the Lord on July 6 th , 2023 at 3:30 p.m. Lee, as she was affectionately called, was born to Austin Emmanuel Watson and Margaret E. Brown on March 18 th ,1925 in St. Catherine Jamaica. Lee grew up in Linstead, St. Catherine, and began her educational journey at St. Simon’s elementary school. She continued her education at Excelsior Secondary School and then graduated from Bennett Commercial College. Lee pursued higher accolades by furthering her education in nursing school in 1946 and becoming a RN in 1949. Due to her perseverance, Lee was promoted to Ward Sister at Jubilee Hospital soon after she began her career and held her position for many years to follow. She worked hard and became well respected at many other medical institutions such as the University of The West Indies Health Center and Bethel Medical Clinic. Lee was an excellent, well-known, and highly respected nurse that had a mission to serve adverse, underprivileged communities in her era. She could tell you many stories of her minacious encounters in areas where she administered care but was always regarded as an angel in their time of despair and illness. Lee was a legend in her time and her imprint will live on for many generations to come. Her mission did not retire with her career.
Lee was preceded in death by her mother and father, Austin Emmanuel Watson and Margaret E. Brown, as well as her loving husband, Harry George Legister. She is survived by her
only child, Marguerite (Angie) Legister-Rowe and her son-in-law, Hugh (Alex) Rowe. She was a proud grandmother to her three grandchildren: Gavin, Justin, and Natalie Rowe. Her headstrong, charitable, and comedic heart will live on through them and be missed by many.
Wake will be held at Divine Mortuary on Wednesday July 19, 2023, from 4-7:00 PM. Funeral service will be held on Thursday July 20, 2023, at 11:00 AM. Mrs. Legister will lie in state from 10:00 AM until hour of service. Interment following funeral at Fairview Cemetery.
